What a sight, What a drive !
At this time of year Mallorca produces one of its most spectacular performances. The countryside is covered in a sea of almond blossom, delicate white or pink flowers appear on every almond tree against a background of verdant green fields and mountains. A sight which at times stretches into the distance like hundreds of giant candyfloss.
The Classic Car Club celebrates this spectacle every January with ‘The Almond Blossom Run’. This year the blossom is at its peak right now, a good two weeks earlier than average. Some mysterious combination of temperature, rain and sunshine over the last few weeks has prompted the blossom to do its stuff early. And what a sight.
Sunday was the day for this first club event of 2018, organised by Jean-Pierre Allemann. After meeting at the Cal Demoni restaurant in Algaida, 26 classics headed off through the centre of rural Mallorca on winding country roads. From Algaida, the route went through San Joan-Villafranca and onto Felanitx. Then moving onto small forested roads running under the imposing hill of Castel Santury towards Sa Horta. A delicious lunch followed at the Golf Club Val d’Or against the backdrop of spectacular views.
