After seven days of un-Mallorcan and miserable wet weather, Sunday dawned bright and mostly clear. The island picked itself up from a drenching, chilly week and after a snowy night in the mountains was ready to host the Classic Car Club’s final event of 2017 in the sunshine.
The Christmas Tapas Car Show was held at The Boat House on Sunday and featured the announcement of the winners of the 2017 Club’s Driver’s Championship. The Championship is decided on points awarded during the year, accrued by attending events, placing in events and bonus points for organising an event.
With over a hundred members, the Club’s end of year trophy is always hotly contested and this year was no exception, with three drivers placed within 10 points of each other. Nick Scantlebury on 70 points took the freshly polished trophy home plus a generous El Corte Ingles voucher. In joint second place, Richard Nunn and Pedro Alomar.
As if that wasn’t enough for one event, every year the Club stages a successful collection for the Allen Graham Charity 4 Kidz. The charity helps transform the lives of vulnerable children and young people throughout the 29 care homes on the island. Club members contributed as many toys as one can fit into a van to help make the kids’ Christmas more enjoyable, as well as a cash collection which this year totalled some 200euros.
Altogether a fab afternoon with members of the Classic Car Club treated by the club to a scrumptious selection of tapas, washed down with the odd glass or two of cava or mulled wine.
Seasons’s Greetings to all petrolheads, as well as more normal people, we don’t want you to feel left out. See you next season.
