Our second rally of this year was organised by Pam Gardner and Helen Pitt. The weather was exceedingly kind to us and after heavy rain the night before, the sun came out and dried out the roads just in time.
The idea of this challenge was to follow the tulip route, finding strategically placed jigsaw pieces marked by our club balloons. There were a total of fourteen questions to answer along the way and seven jigsaw pieces to find.
The route took us down to the beautiful beach of Portals Vells, to Port Adriano and Santa Ponsa. After a brief spell on the motorway, we were taken through Capdella and over the top via Calvia towards Genova. This was the most challenging section with lots of twists and turns on this Mallorca ORIS rally route. After a quick detour to Puerto Portals, we were directed to the beautiful restaurant of Mood beach Club. Here we enjoyed an excellent two course lunch with superb sea vistas of the bay of Palma.
To decide the eventual winner, it was all down to mileage. Out of 16 classics eligible to enter, several competitors managed to answer all 14 questions correctly and assemble the jigsaw pieces into a picture of our club logo. The winner with an almost perfect mileage of 66 .0 km was Dirk Mutters & Tony in his red Seat 600. A close second and third were Mark & Dave in Helen´s MGB roadster and Volker & Karin in their Fiat.
