Sunset Picnic and Car Show 30 June 2019

Santuari de Cura, Randa

On Sunday 30 June, the Classic Car Club Mallorca met once more for the popular Sunset Picnic & Car Show at the stunning hilltop Santuari de Cura in Randa, organised by Robert & Jane Klevenhagen.

34 immaculate classic cars and 80 plus members and friends turned out for the Sunset Picnic, the Club’s longest running regular event, started over 20 years ago and as popular as ever! The picnic is a chance to enjoy the cars, your favourite picnic food (and taste other’s) and to bring the whole family to this unique setting.

Most cars started their evening at The Boat House on the Paseo Maritimo. The classic convoy then left Palma and cruised to Llucmajor. From there it was a picturesque drive up to Puig de Randa, first passing the Oratorio de Nostra Senyora de Gracia, then the Santuari de Sant Honorat and finally reaching Santuari de Cura at the summit.

There were some stunning cars on show, vying for the prize of ‘mi coche favorito’ as voted by all the participants. And some tasty picnics competing for first place.

The winner of the car show was Madeline Mettagang in her gorgeous Ford Thunderbird. Joint runners up were Paddy & Ann Pigden in their white Alfa Spider and Hans-Jurgen & Kerstin Fabritius and their son Felix, in their Mercedes drop top.

The best presented picnic prize went to Thomas Boeckeler, Manuela Dewitz and Eun Young, who brought an immaculate picnic and came in their immaculate Land Rover.

To join in the summer fun next year, put Sunday evening 28 June in your 2020 diary now. We will be back to do it all over again!

If you’re on the island on Wednesday 24 July 2019, join us in the evening at the Summer Car Show and BBQ in memory of Russell Stevens. Jointly organised by the Classic Car Club and Driving Mallorca, with support from the American Car Club and Porsche Club Baleares, this is an event not to miss, more than 100 classic cars will be on show, hopefully including yours!

Cheers, Robert and Jane Klevenhagen
