Southeast Mallorca

Challenge Car Run

23 Nov 2024

After last month’s wash out with torrential rain and the cancelled Car Run, it was good to finally get this month’s Car Run off to a brilliant start.  The weather was as good as it could be, with beautiful deep blue sky with a warm sun beaming down on us.  It was the perfect weather for classic open top cars to bathe in the perfect conditions.

This month’s Car run was organised by Blanca Ramos Gonzales and was focussed on the central and southeast area of Mallorca, appropriately entitled Southeast Mallorca Challenge Car Run.  We met at Festival Park in glorious sunshine and a total of 23 cars and 44 people were in attendance.  Blanca gave everyone their instructions and a map and at 11am the Car Run started.

We made our way out of Festival Park and headed for the Ma-13 travelling North to Inca, picking up the Ma-30 heading South, which fed into the Ma-3020 on the Sencelles road. Part way along the Ma-3020 we took a right turn and passed through the gorgeous, quaint village of Ses Alqueries.  We continued South along a beautiful country road taking in some stunning scenery. We then picked up the Ma-3011, onto the Ma-3140 towards Pina and then the Ma-3200 heading further and further South.  We drove on the Ma-5017 heading towards Randa and then Llucmajor and then took the Ma-6020, picking up the Ma-6014, which gave us the opportunity to drive along the coast road east of the airport.  This was another stunning section of the drive that eventually took us to the Ma-6015 and the restaurant in Sa Rapita.

It was a long run (84 kms) but everyone made it to the restaurant at around 1.30pm, well in time for the sumptuous three course meal that awaited us.  The Club Nautico restaurant in Sa Rapita is in a wonderful setting, directly on the beach with stunning sea views.  The meal was delicious, and one of the main courses, fried eggs with potatoes and langoustines, was the standout dish. The ambience in the restaurant was superb and the service was exceptional.  It is certainly a restaurant to remember for the future.  All in all, it was a wonderful Car Run that introduced several of us to roads we had never been on before.

Blanca had asked 10 questions along the route of the Car Run that related to various landmarks and signs, which we had to identify.  Only one car managed to get all ten questions correct so well done to Graham Preston and Gordon Cox who took first place. Two cars got 9 questions correct, so a tie break question was used to separate them.  The winner of that, and taking second place, was Andreas and Manuela Botas, and in third place was Arne and Susan Soedal.  Congratulations to all the winners.

Thank you to you everyone who attended and making it a wonderful day, and a special thank you to Blanca for organising this memorable and engaging Car Run.  It is one we will remember for a long time.
